My name is Joe Blakeney. I am running for the position of Constable Post 1. This year, my wife, Dana (Green) Blakeney, and I will celebrate 20 years of marriage. We have three children. Troy is a Senior at Raleigh High School and Travis is a Sophmore. My daughter MaKayla is an Eighth grader. We are a Christian family and are members of Salem Baptist Church in the Cohay community.
From the time I was in grade school, I was drawn to the profession of law-enforcement. I believe that God called me to be a servant from this early age. Shortly after graduating from Raleigh High School in 1997, I joined the Mississippi Army National Guard as a Military Police Officer where I served honorably for 8 years. In February of 2000, I joined the Raleigh Police Dept. and began my civilian career. I attended the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer Training Academy, widely known as one of the top academies in the nation, and finished in the top percentage of my class. I am currently employed with the Jones County Sheriff’s Dept. as a patrol Sergeant/Supervisor. Throughout my 22 year career, I have been involved with every facet of law enforcement and have attended countless hours of continued training to stay up to date with techniques and laws. Now that I’ve honked my own horn and told you about what I do, let me tell you who I am.
I’m a law man. I am NOT a politician. I also don’t believe in telling you what you want to hear. Honesty is the best policy and I’ll give it to you straight. I will always do what I believe is right no matter what the outcome. The reason law enforcement started pulling at me from such an early age is because I’m a protector. It’s just in me. I don’t like to see people hurt, physically or emotionally. Whether it’s from an altercation, losing property from being burglarized or suffering the loss of a loved one, I want to help. For the last 22 years I have done just that. Smith county is my home. While I work for a great Sheriff in Jones county, I want to serve my folks here at home. I want to be part of the solution here.
